New in Attic 1.1

See what your AI tools leave on your Mac.

Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and local models keep logs, caches, sessions and models in your home folder, sometimes gigabytes of them. Attic adds it up, tool by tool, and moves only what’s safe to the Trash, after you confirm.

One real Mac.

On the Mac Attic is built on, the first check found 12 GB. Claude Desktop’s Cowork virtual machine took 11 GB of it: shown, but not offered, because Claude Desktop has no way to shrink it yet. Codex sessions took 680 MB, VS Code 246 MB (233 MB of it web caches it rebuilds) and Claude Code 12 MB. Yours will be different; that’s the point of looking.

Three kinds of data, treated differently.

  • Safe to clear

    Can go to the Trash

Debug logs, old plan files and background-task output from Claude Code; the web caches of Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf, which they rebuild; OpenCode’s package cache. Pre-ticked only when it’s old enough.

  • Your history

    Only shown

Conversations and checkpoints from Claude Code, Codex sessions, Cursor chats, OpenCode snapshots and local models from Ollama, Hugging Face and LM Studio. Attic shows their size and each tool’s own way to tidy them, but never offers them.

  • Never offered

    Never touched

Sign-ins, API keys, settings, memory files, MCP configuration, plugins and skills, worktrees, and anything changed in the last 24 hours.

When an agent runs away.

Background tasks can write a lot, fast. One Claude Code bug report describes 537 GB of task output filling a disk. After your first check, Attic measures the few places an agent can fill in minutes, every 15 minutes, and tells you when one grows by about 10 GB an hour or free space drops under 10 GB. It names the session to end; it doesn’t move anything on its own.

How it decides what’s safe.

  • Nothing is read until you click Check Now. After that it checks once a week and notifies you when 5 GB or more can go.
  • It looks only in the folders each tool documents, in your home folder and Claude Code’s temp folder, and reads sizes and dates, never what’s inside.
  • Nothing changed in the last 24 hours is offered, and most logs wait a week.
  • An app’s caches can’t be ticked while the app is open: quit it first.
  • Right before moving, it checks again and moves only what is still safe.
  • Everything goes to the Trash, where Put Back works. Attic never empties it, and every item is logged before it moves.

The tools it knows.

And it still does its day job.

Attic is the menu bar app that puts old screenshots and downloads away by itself, into a folder on your Mac. Nothing deleted, everything one click from coming back.
